NCS⁴ Concludes Successful Annual Conference


The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) has successfully concluded its 17th Annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition with a record number of attendees and exhibitors. 

The conference was held June 23-25 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif. The 2026 theme, “Honoring the Past, Securing the Future,” paid tribute to the visionaries, partners and professionals who have shaped the sport and special event safety and security industry, and explored emerging challenges, technologies and strategies that define its future.

Twelve Individuals to Receive Professional of the Year Award at the National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition


Twelve professionals will be recognized for their leadership in addressing safety and security issues during the 2026 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition, June 23-25, in Palm Desert, Calif. The event is presented annually by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The Professional of the Year Award recognizes a member of management in the field who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in addressing safety and security issues over the past year. In addition to enhancing the safety of their venue or event, the recipient’s contributions have set an example for others to follow. This award is sponsored by Prevent Advisors, a risk management advisory and implementation service that provides holistic security solutions focused on safeguarding the entire sports, live entertainment and dynamic public assembly facility ecosystem. Cathy Lanier, senior vice president and chief of security at the National Football League (NFL), will be recognized with the Milton E. Ahlerich Distinguished Leadership Award at the 2026 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition on June 23-25, 2026, in Palm Desert, Calif. The event is presented annually by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The Milton E. Ahlerich Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes a professional whose career includes multiple achievements and contributions to sports safety and security.
