2024 Venue Security Director Survey

This study aims to explore professional sports venue security issues, emerging threats, and technology solutions. Information gleaned from this study will assist venue security directors in planning and policy development, venue operations, and technology utilization. The survey consisted of 53 questions related to venue demographics, staffing, training, and development, facility operations, fan behavior, and technology solutions. The online survey was administered to venue security directors hosting professional sports teams from Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Hockey League (NHL).

2023 Spectator Sports Safety and Security Survey

This study aims to gauge sport spectators’ perceptions of safety and security at live events, awareness and support of policies and procedures, and willingness to embrace new measures and technological solutions to enhance their safety and game-day experience. The survey consisted of 47 questions divided into three parts: Part I – participant demographics and attendance habits, Part II – perceptions of safety and security practices, technologies, and industry threats, and Part III – perceptions of fan behavior and the spectator experience. A data collection and analysis organization was utilized to distribute the survey in June 2023. The sample population criteria were individuals 18 or older who had attended a live professional or intercollegiate sporting event within the last year. Four hundred participants (n=400) across the continental U.S. completed the survey.

2022 Venue Security Director Survey

The purpose of this study is to explore professional sports venue security issues, emerging threats, and technology solutions. Information gleaned from this study will assist venue directors in policy development, increase awareness of technology solutions, identify resource needs, and address training gaps to help protect human, physical, and cyber assets. The survey consisted of 48 questions related to venue demographics, staffing and training, fan behavior, technology utilization, patron screening, cybersecurity, and drone mitigation. The online survey was administered in April/May 2022 to venue security directors hosting professional sports teams from Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, and the National Hockey League.

2021 Spectator Sports Safety and Security Survey

The purpose of this survey is to gauge spectators’ perceptions of safety and security at events they have attended, their awareness of measures in place to help reduce and prevent problems, and their support for safety and security practices and technologies. The spectator survey consisted of 63 questions divided into three parts: Part 1 – general demographics and attendance habits, Part II – perceptions of general safety and security practices, and Part III – perceptions of COVID-19 related safety and security practices. An online data collection and analysis organization was utilized to distribute the survey on July 14 and 19, 2021. Individuals 18 years or older who had attended a live professional or intercollegiate sporting event within the last three years completed the survey.
