Four emerging sports security professionals will be recognized for their leadership in addressing safety and security issues as part of the 2019 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition set for July 9-11, in New Orleans, LA. This year’s theme is Learning from the past – Preparing for the future. More than 400 security professionals and 60 vendor exhibits are expected for the national conference.

The presentation of the Emerging Industry Leader Awards will be sponsored by GeoComm, provider of smarter security through 3D and indoor maps, and take place on the second day of the tenth annual conference, which is hosted by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi.

“The Emerging Industry Leader Award is to allow professional leagues, NCAA member institutions, marathon organizations, and interscholastic athletic programs to honor outstanding individuals that have gone above and beyond for their sports safety and security.” said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. “These contributions involve enhancing safety and security at their venue beyond what is normally required, and setting an example for other young aspiring sports security professionals to follow.”

Marciani noted that each league or organization selects the criteria and makes the determination as to which professional will be recognized. Those being recognized include the following:

  • Michael Clemons, Race Director, Louisville Sports Commission (Marathon/Road Race Advisory Committee)
  • Patrick Lee, Athletic Director, Lamar County School District (Interscholastic Advisory Committee)
  • Scott Ellis, CSSP, Lieutenant, University of South Carolina Police Department (NCAA)
  • Sam Cornejo, Director of Security, SMG State Farm Stadium (NFL)
